Villa of the Week: Dhevatara Residence in Koh Samui, Thailand

Sitting between tranquil Maenam and vibrant Fisherman’s Village, Dhevatara Residence is your private corner of Bophut with endless sea views and every comfort a large group could ask for.

We believe that some of life’s best occasions deserve a change of scenery — preferably one with a sea view and a private pool. If you’re like us, bookmark Dhevatara Residence, which is set along Koh Samui’s northern coast between Maenam and Fisherman’s Village. Featuring a collection of eight private pool villas, this villa estate offers plenty of room for family reunions, milestone celebrations and those long-awaited get-togethers when everyone finally manages to be in the same place.

The five beachfront villas , namely Baan Kularb, Baan Feung Fah, Baan Leelawadee, Baan Benjamart and Baan Ban Buri, put the soft sand and sparkling waters at your doorstep. Meanwhile, the three hillside retreats, Baan Maliwan, Baan Ratree and Baan Bua Sawan, offer sweeping views of the sea from above. Each villa can be booked separately, or the entire estate can be yours for the taking, accommodating up to 62 guests, with room for another 16 at an additional charge.

One estate, eight villas, and a whole lot of possibilities. Here’s a closer look at what makes Dhevatara Residence a lovely place to settle into island life.

The Location: Bophut, Between Serenity and the Social Scene

Bophut offers a quieter stretch of Koh Samui without putting the island’s restaurants and nightlife out of reach. Dhevatara Residence sits along Bophut Beach, just a six-minute drive from Fisherman’s Village. Head in the opposite direction and you’ll find Maenam, where a long, palm-lined beach looks across to Koh Phangan. With plenty of space on the sand, generally calm waters, relaxed beachside cafés and fewer crowds than Chaweng, it’s perfect for families whose main agenda is simply to spend the day at the beach.

Fisherman’s Village is where Bophut’s old-world charm meets its more sociable side. Once a traditional fishing community, its narrow streets are now lined with boutique shops, cosy cafés and restaurants, from authentic Thai flavours and fresh seafood at Krua Bophut to sizzling steaks at The Shack Bar & Grill and beachfront pizzas at Coco Tam’s. Fans of The White Lotus may also recognise this neighbourhood from the show’s third season, which featured Fisherman’s Village among its Koh Samui filming locations.

As the sun goes down, beachfront bars fill with visitors settling in for cocktails and fire shows, while the Walking Street Market brings a lively mix of street food, local crafts and souvenirs. It’s the sort of place where an evening stroll can easily turn into a whole night out.

The Design: Tropical Flair, Thai Style

Rather than one sprawling property, Dhevatara Residence features eight individual villas spread across the beachfront and hillside. The estate’s pavilion-style architecture makes the most of its tropical surroundings, with two-tiered, wood-shingled roofs lending a distinctly Thai touch. Whether you’re staying right by the shore or perched a little higher on the hillside, the sea is never far away (and that’s the way we want to stay!).

Whoever said tropical interiors had to be all rattan and beige clearly hadn’t visited Dhevatara Residence. Here, vibrant turquoise and aqua-blue accents make an appearance alongside leafy botanical prints, while teak furniture, Asian artwork and polished wood finishes pay tribute to the region’s design traditions. Pale tiled floors balance the richer tones, resulting in interiors that aren’t afraid of a little colour.

The living and dining areas are spacious and air-conditioned, with full-length folding doors that open towards the outdoors, bringing in natural light and views of the surrounding scenery. Meanwhile, the bedrooms offer a quiet retreat after a day in the sun, or whenever an afternoon nap sounds appealing.

The Amenities: Your Island Idyll

Sometimes, the best holidays are the ones with very little on the agenda. At Dhevatara Residence, everything is centered around slowing down and making the most of life by the water. Each villa comes with its own private pool, inviting leisurely morning swims, sun-soaked afternoons and the occasional moment when doing absolutely nothing feels like the best plan of all.

Inside, a fully equipped kitchen makes everything from quick smoothie to family feasts easy, while spacious living and dining areas offer a comfortable setting for gathering over good food and conversation. There’s a sound system for your personalised playlist, while other shared amenities include a pair of kayaks and a barbecue grill, available on request.

The Service: A Warm Thai Welcome

There’s something rather wonderful about a holiday where the little things seem to take care of themselves. At Dhevatara Residence, each villa comes with a dedicated manager and housekeeping team to keep everything running smoothly, leaving you free to enjoy your time in Koh Samui without worrying about the little things.

Perhaps the day begins with a leisurely breakfast before an afternoon spent by the pool. When hunger strikes, a private chef can be arranged in advance to prepare anything from a relaxed family lunch to a celebratory dinner, all enjoyed without having to leave the villa. And should the afternoon call for a massage, spa treatments can be arranged, too.

Beyond the villa, the concierge team can help turn your island plans into reality, from securing a table at a favourite restaurant to organising a day out exploring Koh Samui. With complimentary return airport transfers taking care of the journey to and from the estate, all that’s left is to settle in and enjoy the company you came for.
